American Motors attempted to spear a section of the burgeoning pony car market when it introduced its Javelin in 1968. Its sophomore season saw the Javelin roll out with a new twin venturi grille and reworked side striping. Providing the power behind the Javelin was a base 143 hp. 232 cid. inline six, although a V-8 was also optional. Standard equipment included a custom steering wheel, three-speed manual transmission with floor-mounted shifter, and 6.95 x 14 blackwalls.
